External tool - CLEAR events not being sent when disabling instance/deleting resources
Hello, We've been noticing sometimes when deleting a resource (that has open alarms - previously sent to our SNOW ITOM viaintegration), CLEAR event(s)- for the respective alarms aren't sent. The same happens with instances that we disable for example. This behavior often leads to stuff filtered on LM but, alarms still open on SNOW. We've started to disable alarming first & only then delete/filter. However, it would be nice if LM had some kind of mechanism that would detect present alarms for the resource/instance in question & send a CLEAR eventautomatically upon deletion of those. I believe this would avoid the end-user missing the 'disable alarming' step prior to the deletion & ease our job a lot (since we're in a constant filter/removal of stuff). It would be nice to have an export button on any alert table. We have two main roles working with LogicMonitor, an Infrastructure level and Customer Support level. The Infrastructure role should have full permissions over the entire Alert Settings section and see all items created by everyone. The Customer Support level should only be able to view, add and modify the settings they set. Some of these settings may be temporary so there may be a lot of activity in the Alert Settings section. We do not want the possibility for a user in the Customer Support role to view, modify or delete settings created by users in the Infrastructure role. This is high priority for us.Kris_Jankiewicz3 years agoNeophyte1View0likes0CommentsInclude user ID in "Add a new account" audit log entry

It had been ages since I had to write a datasource in PowerShell so I haven't stayed up-to-date on the latest bells and whistles available. To monitor log files on remote servers, it is not always handy to install LM Collector or FluentD on production servers. However, for Windows servers, we can take advantages of Window Hidden Sharing, that is to use \\<HOSTNAME>\c$\<FolderPath>\<LogFile> as the path to access a log file for EventSource. While at the moment we can't use Hostname token with the Logfile Path definition, therefore I have to create separate EventSource for each server. Hi Team, We are looking for better tracking/alerting for temp increases overtime. We tried dynamic thresholds, but nothing worked out correctly in the sandbox. Problem - When utilizing the LM<->ServiceNow CMDB integration, the Collector Alerts cannot automatically tie to the CMDB related Collector CI as we cannot pass the Collector "Device Name" in the Collector Alert as it's not an available token. Workaround - Support has suggested we define a Collector property with the exact "Device Name" as defined within the Collector views and that we create a scripted mechanism to apply it to many hundreds of Collectors. That workaround would work, but I don't believe that it should be something that requires a workaround considering this data is most certainly readily available. Request - Please provide a Collector Alert specific token for the "Device Name".6Views1like0CommentsSearch results-clicked device/resource - Details pane choose a static group instead of a dynamic group
I'm not aware of a way to do this today, so forgive me if there is a way that I don't know. I did open a ticket about this. When clicking on a resource/device from the results of a search, the detail pane (on the right) defaults to "All Devices" or "Devices By Type" Dynamic Group view. I.e. Click HOSTNAME123; The default group is "Devices By Type" > Linux Servers > HOSTNAME123. This causes heartburn with role assignments, device management strategies, etc. We have sub-teams who may have view permission on the dynamic group, but manage permission on the static group and they're impeded when searching for something or clicking through from a link. We use dynamic groups for ease of platform management and device classification. We use static groups for management and role segmentation for security controls. Some engineers and administrators need to be able to view all devices in a dynamic group, but should only have manage rights for devices assigned to them via role and purpose based static groups. Can we please have a feature to select which group / view it will default to for platform wide search results? When managing an instance group on a resource, occasionally it's required to disable all instances within the group. Today when you use the Select All check box, that function only selects the first page of instances in the group and then you have to do it again and again for any further pages. When using "Select All" feature in the Collector Resources or Collector Websites view, if you uncheck a single selection it unchecks all selections on any further pages. So for example, if I want to manually failover all of the devices assigned to a Collector, but not the monitoring of the Collector itself or a single Netflow host (for example), it de-selects all further pages of devices and only selects the remaining devices on the first page. Many times our users & admins just want an exportable list of devices/resources for a property value definedwith specific contentsand not all devices with that property defined. I'd like to propose an enhancement to the report (or perhaps another report type) to allow us to use regex to match what is stored in the Value field for the named property. Today our workaround requires us to use CSV files and filtering data in an external spreadsheet application or parsing the output with a script. That's not always beneficial for us and not all users are savvy enough to use API queries and scripts to get what they want. I can't imagine the processing required to output all entries with a specific property set takes much more overhead than a query for specific property contents. Hi LogicMonitor We are a MSP with where some customers have access to our portal, in the LogicMonitor portal we both have our own devices, devices at customer sites and so on. In addition we have Device Groups which only the customers can see, but we can also see them as we are admins on the root folder of our portal, if the customer needs help with anything. But we do not have responsibility for their alarms, therefore it's annoying that we can see their alarms on the "Alerts" button. Ideally we'd like to see this counter reflected by whatever "view" that the particular admin has set for themselves under the alert page:https://<OUR-COMPANY>.logicmonitor.com/santaba/uiv4/alerts In my case I've created a view called "OUR-COMPANY-Owned" that filter on our Device Groups and not the customers alerts. There's a few different use-cases around logging that we are presented with in our enterprise. I know that LM Logs is focused on logging functionality that enhances its other monitoring competencies and its not intended to be a competitor to all of the other logging-only products and services out there. But there are 2 somewhat related features that would be valuable to us and hopefully others reading this will add enough +1s to justify looking into them if they haven't already been considered. variable retention length, per resource. Blanket 30 day or 1 year choice is extremely difficult to make if an overwhelming majority of log-emitting resources are fine with 30 days but the use case that needs longer retention involves a only a small fraction of the log-emitting resources. There's probably an endless number of ways to unroll this idea but as an example: maybe there's a way to add a storage dimension such that a customer could move the slider to 90 days for the 5 resources that need it, but by doing so the slider drops from 30- to 3-day retention for the other resources? archive of raw logs to external destinations like S3 or Azure Blob. This could be done manually, or accomplished by a schedule or other automation and to an extent it probably could substitute for the first bullet item, and really if LM agreed to do only 1 of these this is probably the one I'd value more. So jump in make some noise and smash that 'Like' button, peeps. Feel free to add some meat to this skeleton's bones too.Michael_Dieter3 years agoNeophyte8Views0likes0CommentsIntelligent auto-balanced collector pool updates.
Hi LM, Currently, applying collector updates (both one-time manuals and recurring-scheduled) to all of the collectors in an autobalanced group initiates updates for all collectors in the group simultaneously; taking the devices being monitored by the group down. It makes scheduled batch updating impractical for large pools that are scaled up over time. This is due to needing to continually add update schedules individually to every collector in the pool to ensure no overlap. Changing the collector update feature to be autobalanced-aware and cycle through the group, initiating the next collector in the group when the previous one comes back online post-upgrade, would significantly improve the utility of this feature. Currently, if a collector goes down the devices it was monitoring will only failover to other collectors in the group if doing so does not put them over the defined Rebalance Threshold on the ABCG. This means you can't specify a Rebalance Threshold that allows instances to rebalance evenly across your collectors AND allow for instances to failover, it's one or the other which defeats the whole purpose and takes the Auto out of Auto Balance as to have collectors run in an n-1 highly available configuration means you have to specify a Rebalance Threshold value that is higher than the total instance count divided by the number of collectors minus one, then after a failover you have to adjust the Rebalance Threshold to a number close to the total number of instances divided by number of collectors, trigger a rebalance, wait, and then set the Rebalance Threshold back tototal instance count divided by the number of collectors minus one. Madness! I propose keeping the Rebalance Threshold field but making it actually behave like it's name; when instance count is over the value, collector tries to offload instances to other collectors in the group. BUT, allow instances from a failed collector to offload to collectors past that threshold value so that failover continues to work. To address the concern of collectors being pushed past their capacity, add an additional field called Max Allowed Instances and only disallow instances to be offloaded to a collector if the instance count would push it past that value and trigger an alert in the event that that happens. This will allow us to have HA configurations AND auto balancing of instances work at the same time, as well as alerting us to the fact that instances have not failed over when it happens so that steps can be taken to increase the sizing/number of collectors.62Views1like4CommentsDefault password for new users
