After a little over 2 weeks observing results from LM Cloud Azure monitoring, I've noticed that these storage capacity datasources all produce graphs with big gaps in them from polls returning "No Data"...sometimes this occurs for several consecutive polls which are at the default 1 hour interval. This has persisted even after ensuring that datasources are updated to current versions. Has anyone else observed this behavior? Did you discover a cause? Were you able to correct it; if so how? I'm not sure that moving to the next available poll interval (6 hours) is desirable. Any ideas or suggestions? Is anyone using or planning on using CredentialGuard? We enabled it in the spring and ran into problems if the WMI user (via properties) wasn't the same as the service account. After a lot of work with support to identify the source of the problem, the final response was that it's an unsupported configuration. "This doesn't mean you cannot use Credential Guard, simply that it hasn't been officially tested and verified and any performance related issues cannot be remedied via support -- per the support team" The specific use of different accounts wasn't an issue for us; it was a legacy of the early installation. However, I am concerned that there are no plans to include a credential guard configuration in their release testing. I expect in MOST cases it works seamlessly and that's why they haven't heard from customers. Thanks. Background on the issue: The underlying issue appeared to be insbproxy;powershell scripts would work fine but 'native' WMI not. It appeared to be something related to queueing; slowly enabling instances wouldn't trigger the problem, but if you enabled many instances at once it would permanently get backed up. It's been a few months so the details might not be completely accurate.0Views0likes0CommentsNeed to display a datapoint value change as a dash widget
I have been working to report power usage from an APC PDU Here is the forum thread: /topic/6089-reporting-apc-pdu-power-usage/ The short version: the only way to see a delta between a data point value at the beginning and end of a set time period is with a Resource Metric Trend Report. this report can produce extremely valuable information for any data point that changes over time, but you can not access the calculated delta value outside of the report. Secondarily, the report has extremely limited customization for output and is not at all suitable for a customer facing report. The real world application needs to extend to dashboard widgets. youcan use a graph widget to see the change over time, but you can not calculate against or display the difference in the historic value versus the current value. in my specific case, I only need to have the Min / Max value for thereport date range available as it is an incrementing value. But thepossible use cases for access to historic data in widgets are endless. Additionally, If the data was available to the dashboard widgets we could publish a dashboard as a report on a scheduled basis for clients. if there is anything I can do to help explain this or further the development cause, please let me know.0Views0likes0Comments02 SEP 2020 - LogicMonitor Basics Webinar

Hi Team, In the below link, the steps are provided on "How to add Azure Account into LogicMonitor". https://www.logicmonitor.com/support/lm-cloud/getting-started-lm-cloud/2b-adding-azure-environment-logicmonitor My question, is on 3rd step and 4th step once the SPN is created via powershell. If yes, can anyone please provide the sample code or reference to the code. Regards, Rahul3Views0likes0Commentsallow backfilling lost data
As many are likely aware, there was a major Internet outage this morning due to a fault within the Level3/CenturyLink backbone. We lost a lot of data as a result, most obviously from Meraki API fetches that failed during the outage. In some cases, such as this one, the data could be backfilled after the outage, but the LM architecture is designed for near-realtime polling and does not currently support this. My request is thus, if the data involved CAN be fetched after the fact, I would like some option to enable backfilling to cover the lost data at that time.0Views0likes0CommentsReporting Module
One of the major pain points that we have encountered within this platform resides in the reporting module, most specifically in threshold reporting. With our environment there are single "devices" (such as vCenter) that alone will produce more lines in a reporting than the existing 50,000 line limit if we attempt to report on the instance thresholds. With the current implementation of the reporting, we can select to report on 'Only show custom thresholds', but this isn't quite enough unfortunately. We have run into issues with this omitting any thresholds that are not currently set, which allows for false negatives on alerting metrics. Ideally we would want to be able to alert on the environment and show those custom thresholds, but also show the global or effective thresholds in the same report with some deduplicationperformed on the DataSources before presenting the report so as to cut down the total lines for those 'blank' fields. Essentially, for a DataSource type it could show the global or effective (at device group level) thresholds, and for instances that deviate from those values have named instances with the custom thresholds shown in a hierarchical format. Our current workflow requires sending an API call for the thresholds recursively across the environment and having that script perform the de-dupe for us cutting down millions of instances to those that have thresholds set that are different from the Global level, and then saving that information into a separate CSV file after transforming the data. Overall it works, but is clumsy to say the least, I would love to find a way to do this directly from within the platform as right now I personally have to spend a fair amount of time acquiring and validating the data every time management wants to run reports of this nature. Any advice on how we can better resolve this, or if this can be taken up as a feature request we would be very appreciative.1View3likes0Comments26 AUG 2020 Office Hours

So I was asked if we can include all the different Citrix box roles in our Dynamic Citrix Group which looks for any devices that has the Category with different Citrix property sources. For reference there are Citrix StoreFronts (SF) >> Deskstop Delivery Controlers (DDC) >> Provisioning Services Servers (PVS) >> XenApp Farm Servers So for the PVS servers I did created a new Property Source entry and used Embedded Groovy Script and took the content from another PS and just modified the contains xxxx section: import com.santaba.agent.groovyapi.win32.WMI; //================================== def host = hostProps.get("system.hostname"); // get a list of running services def service_list = WMI.queryAll(host, "select * from win32_service"); def datacoreServices = service_list.findAll { service -> service["DISPLAYNAME"].contains("Citrix PVS") } // Did we find any Citrix PVS Services? if (datacoreServices.size() > 0) { println "system.categories=CitrixPVS"; } return(0); //=== END ==== But in searching how to set this up I noticed that DataSources have a much simpler way to query boxes for properties. Example there's a DS called: WinCitrixServices- that in its Active Discovery section we can define the Discovery Method, and the parameters can specify which WMI Class to look at and then easily specify the filter properties, etc..: Why can't Property Sources have this same method to allow me to easily define the criteria I'm looking for? Why is it only groovy or powershell scripts? Also with regards to the different Citrix box roles are there no PVS or StoreFront datasources ?0Views0likes0Comments22 July 2020 - Dynamic Thresholds

I intend to extend this to include more track-worthy account attributes such as Expired, Locked, etc, but to start I wanted to enable expiration tracking for domain admin accounts as we can get caught off-guard on those when they happen unexpectedly. This involved creating a new propertysource that tags domain controllers with one or more categories tied to their FSMO roles, then for the PDCEmulator role (arbitrarily chosen, mainly wanted to pick just one), scans the Domain Admins group list and reports days until expiration. No graphs or thresholds yet, will be extending soon. May also genericize a bit and use an input property for the list of groups to include (with a default of Domain Admins). I am a big believer in having the computer do the work for me, but for website checks humans are forced to do a lot of unnecessary work to find the cause. Generally, we set overall to critical and individuals to warning. My request is that there be a method to also send the individual alerts when the overall triggers. In the absence of a dynamic templating system, the best option I can think of here is to have a way to elevate individual contributors to critical when the overall status triggers. Or, change the behavior so that the individual details are added to the generic overall status alert. Or something else -- I just don't want to have to (or tell my clients they have to) dig through alerts in the UI to figure out what is wrong.0Views0likes0CommentsAdjusting Clear Alerts
One of the items we would like to see implemented is the ability to pick what method of alert messages that clear alerts will be sent to and have them enabled or disabled. Due to the fact that its only a SNMP AutoProps that sets system.sysinfo in a Linux environmentthis causes issues for environments where SNMP is not enabled (esp. Cloud environments) Not only the failure of IsLinux() to recognise Linux hosts that exist, but also other datasources that exist that expect system.sysinfo to be populated (i.e Oracle_database_names expects system.sysinfo to be populated to determine if a Host is Linux and therefore perform a ssh connection to determine DB instances). So even though it is using SSH to perform the property setting .. its relying on a property that is only set via SNMP and fail if it does not. If its a valid scenario that SNMP is not available (due to security restrictions in Cloud environments) and SSH based datasources are available to fill this gap.. we really need a SSH based auto props feature too so that we have the option to completely avoid SNMP0Views0likes0CommentsMonitor checkpoint firewall security services expiration

One thing I have noticed over time is how often I find that there is a datapoint somewhere that really deserves to be included in an alert rule, but you just don't know this until after you get bitten. This issue is orthogonal to threshold severity, at least as far as some of the modules I have seen. An example fresh from today was loss of power in an environment with no indication it happened. After some checking, found the Cisco FRU Power DS had an update and afterward showed when power loss (and other related issues) happened. Whoever wrote this one decided each class of issues would be warning level only even though the DP classes themselves are warning, error and critical, grouping different conditions within each. What I came away from with this was that LM itself should have a diagnostic capability to (among other things) recommend which datasources represent important things that ought to have alert rules but do not (or route to NoEscalation). I am not sure yet on how this out to be represented in the system, but some indication of "this one is important and should route to an alert!" in each datapoint would be a good start. It may be there is more metadata that deserves to be included, but nothing else pops into my head right now.3Views0likes0CommentsHttp Integration API retries/Timeout setting

Sometimes it would be nice to create section labels within dashboards. For example, since you cannot show multiple website ping statistics in one graph, I group them by columns and would like to add a column label. You can add a text widget, but it takes way too much vertical space. Similarly, may be nice to have sections with boundaries and background color fill to visually group various widgets.1View1like0CommentsSSL Cert Chain Expiration monitoring
Good Morning, We have a customer that was hoping we'd be monitoring the Root and Intermediate SSL Certs on some linux servers and Cisco CUCM Servers. However, the default SSL Cert LogicModule only moitors the domain/server level cert and not the entire SSL Chain. I found a debug command from another forum post and I can see that the script can properly see the entire SSL Chain on the device. I just need to now script that out so that each cert found is an 'instance' and then there's a datapoint monitoring the expiration date. Has anyone done this before and has a datasource/Loigcmodule that they can share? The questions are listed here in the same order asked for search-ability: I want to know about the Datasources configuration. How to do it. I want to know about the integration between the alerts and auto-ticketing hi Stuart, is there any report available OOB similar to a heatmap in CAPC? Also, what's the best way to get an Availability/Reachability SLA report for multiple remote locations? Hi Stuart!! We have had Collector load (overload!) issues off-and-on for quite a while. The biggest challenge is usually about how to track down which DataSource (or family of DataSources) is impacting a set of Collectors. Do you have any tips / tricks on how to drill down from a Collector overload condition to find out what exactly is generating the overload? is it possible to group interfaces from different devices? For instance, if we have 100 remote locations with 2 internet circuits each, can we group those 200 internet circuits into a single group so we can easily identify the port where circuit is terminating instead of navigating to different location and then trying to find where the circuit interface is? how can i protect my system from blowing up after upgrading datasources? i have some exclusions and "tweaks" to some of them. for example, i exclude the vmware host level vm disk space check because vcenter also does it. when i upgrade datasources, it adds back the defaults which causes be to get hundreds of alerts that were excluded previously a confusion/question related to netflow - as opposed to NFA, in LogicMonitor, netflow is shown at device level instead of interface level. So if we have flow export configured on multiple interfaces from a single device, would that show aggregate of all interfaces? this might show how effective ABCG is? or at least give one visualization showing how ABCG might be moving devices (and their instances) around? One feedback; alternatively a question. The SDT panel is somewhat cumbersome, if you have a number of alerts to SDT. Lots of clicks and confirms. Ideally, a couple hot buttons, like "Put in downtime for: 5 min, 30 min, 2 hours, 2 days", etc. The fewer clicks, the better. I provided this because we seem to have a number of services that have numerous alerts, all of which tend to fire when the service/server I down (multi-tenant apps, etc.). Ever since the Nagios days I've wanted cascading alerts. For example, if a database is down, I KNOW that every single app on a host, or even several, will be down. I don't need all 30 apps to complain if the database is out, so it peeves me to have to SDT 30 apps. Is it possible to link alerts in a hierarchy or dependency chain so that only one alert goes out for significant outages? Another example, if the power in the data center goes out (or a battery back catches fire - it HAPPENED!), all the servers don't need to report." Safe Logic Module Merge. Best thing since Sierra Nevada Summerfest Lager. Hi Stuart, there are various devices in the environment, mostly routers and switches with parent-child relationship. Can LogicMonitor read the dependency like parent-child relationship in the devices so that number of alerts can be suppressed? Also, can it read the topology mapping from the network itself? or we still need a Discovery tool?3Views0likes1Comment29 April 2020 Office Hours - Dashboards - Recording and Q&A

Q&A Transcript: Q: Stuart, how long did it take you to grow that beard? A: Haha. It’s about 4 months since i last trimmed. My profile pic is about 3 years old and was the last time it was that short. Q: Do you have a dashboard built out for a Citrix Netscaler VPN appliance? A: The Citrix_Netscaler_AAA datasource might be what you’re looking for as far as data collection. Jake might know if there’s one pre-built. Take a look at the dashboard page to see if there’s one. It’s a pretty comprehensive list of what’s available. There might be more in the works. We can ask Jake. Q: Can the Citrix / Xendesk dashboarb be used for Windows Remote Desktop? A: The dashboard itself focuses on data from Xendesk widgets, but there is a DS called Terminal Services that should provide similar data. Q: Is there a canned legend of that the Alert icons mean? Would be very useful to display on a Alarms dashboard--especially on a wallboard A: I do not believe there is, but it wouldn’t be too difficult to make one using the text widget (which supports images) https://www.logicmonitor.com/support/dashboards-and-widgets/widgets/text-widget/ This might also be helpful https://www.logicmonitor.com/support/getting-started/i-just-signed-up-for-logicmonitor-now-what/6-understanding-logicmonitor-alerts as we already have an icon legend that can be grabbed here. Q: Cisco Webex Dashboard available? A: I don't believe we have anything pre-built at this time. However, if you have datasources monitoring webex metrics our support team can help provide some guidance on how to configure graphs or add those to a dashboard. Q: when you are looking at a Router-Interfaces (64 bit)-GigabitEthernet0/0/1-Throughput. is data showing the inbound and outbound aggregated to total bandwidth available i.e. I have a 1Gig internet interface and my ISP is supplying 1Gig of Bandwidth, inbound showing 200M and outbound is 500M is my total bandwidth usage is 800M or becuse 1G ethernet is full duplex its only showing 200M of 1Gig inbound and 500M of 1Gig of outbound? A: Can you provide some more detail? I'm trying to identify the exact datasource you're looking at here so we can help provide an answer. Q: Cisco router 1Gig interface , Montioring our Thorughput usage A: Unless I misunderstand what you are asking, it sounds like a question better aimed at your ISP. (How do they calculate bandwidth used?) Is that correct? Q: "InOctets All > Prod Internet Router > Interfaces (64 bit)- (snmp64_If-) > GigabitEthernet0/0/1 > InOctets Do not display; Agg: SUM OutOctets All > Prod Internet Router > Interfaces (64 bit)- (snmp64_If-) > GigabitEthernet0/0/1 > OutOctets Do not display; Agg: SUM inbound_bps InOctets*8 Custom outbound_bps OutOctets*8 Custom A: Thanks Walter, I think this would better be answered over a support chat so we can have an engineer dig in and walk though this with you directly. Difficult to properly address this fully over Zoom's Q/A. Q: testing a couple of the templates from https://www.logicmonitor.com/sales/dashboards/. Getting an error when I import the json causing some of the widgets to not create. Warning Some widgets could not be created due to configuration errors One I'm looking at right now is the SQL Server Dashboard and maybe half the widgets didn't generate. Could this be a problem with our setup or is it possibly a typo or error in the json? A: Hi Mike, Perhaps you may be missing some of the required datasources, hard to say without actually looking at the portal. Can you open up a support chat when you have a moment and one of our engineers can check this out with you as you import to confirm the root cause. I just loaded the SQL server dashboard into our training portal without errors. However, because we don’t have applicable instances, there are a lot of blank widgets, which is expected. Q: Good to know. I can work with support. Thanks A: They should be very helpful in this case Q: Is there a link to download the Executive Overview dashboard (like there are for all the rest), or is this provided more of an example of what LM Dashboards are capable? A: It's just an example of what strategies could be employed to create a good summary to an executive.3Views0likes2CommentsEventSource - LogicMonitor_Audit_Logs
